Captive linear actuators offer a short stroke in a compact package where anti-rotation of the shaft is not possible by any other means.
These units convert rotary to linear motion via an integrated leadscrew and nut in a compact package. Named ‘captive’, the integrated leadscrew is held captive within the motor housing, welded to a stainless steel spline arrangement providing anti-rotation of the leadscrew enabling precise linear movement.
As with the captive shaft actuator, conversion of rotary to linear motion takes place within the motor itself by means of the integrated leadscrew and nut, therefore eliminating the use of belts and pulleys, couplings and other mechanical transmission components.
The non captive leadscrew travels through the motor enabling the shortest possible footprint of any linear actuator available on the market today.
External linear actuators combine conventional leadscrew and nut technology, with stepper motor technology. The leadscrew forms part of the motor shaft negating the need for a shaft to shaft coupling, thus providing zero transmission error from motor to screw and shortening the overall linear foot print.

Engineered with custom thermoplastics in the rotor drive nut and a stainless steel acme lead screw. This allows the linear actuator to be quieter, more efficient and more durable than the v-thread and bronze nut configuration commonly used in other linear actuators.
Hybrid and Can-Stack linear actuators enable the designer to build the shortest possible linear solution for the given space envelope. These units utilise proprietary motor rotor technology, incorporating a leadscrew nut directly into the motor. With both captive and non-captive designs, the leadscrew is able to pass completely through the centre of motor.
HaydonKerk linear actuators are available in a variety of styles and sizes. Can-stack linear actuators range from 15mm to 46mm diameter with hybrid linear actuators frame sizes from 21mm to 86mm. With up to 400 full steps per revolution and travel increments as small as 0.003mm/step the hybrid linear actuator performs in all areas.
Utilising high performance polymers, motor life is improved more than 10 times over the traditional bronze nut style. Depending on application parameters, units are supplied lubricated for life.
