Intelligent Motors
Rack actuators with Cool Muscle Motors give you everything you need in one high-density package to provide intelligent linear motion control.
Closed loop control with the built-in 50,000 count encoder gives pinpoint command of position, velocity and torque throughout the motion profile. Connect up to fifteen Cool Muscle motors together for cooperative multi-tasking, multi-axis motion. Reliance Cool Muscle motors are packed with features to cut machine component count and save cost and development time. They have analogue and digital I/O on board, and RS232 and MODBUS communications as standard.
Stepper Motors
Rack actuators with standard stepper motors offer very simple linear motion in an economical package.
Standard stepper motors come in a 6 wire design, however, other motors may be specified on request.

Suitable Applications
Simple and Compact
Available with both solid and tubular racks, rack actuators provide a simple, compact way of transferring rotary motion into linear motion. A trusted and proven rack and pinion system provides fast, accurate, predictable motion.
Full Closed Loop System
Coupled with a Reliance Cool Muscle motor, rack actuators can use the integrated controller and high resolution magnetic encoder to provide a full closed loop position system. For more information see the Reliance Cool Muscle.
High Load - Long Life
All Reliance rack actuators have been fully tested to provide a minimum of 5 million cycles operation. Axial loads up to 90N continuous and 150N momentary are available on the size 23. Other axial loads available on different sizes are as follows:
Size 17 tubular rack actuator (PEEKTM pinion) 3N Axial, 12N Momentary
Size 17 tubular rack actuator (316 stainless steel pinion) 15N Axial, 25N Momentary
Size 17 solid rack actuator (304 stainless steel pinion) 25N Axial, 50N Momentary
Size 23 solid rack actuator (17-4PH stainless steel pinion) 19N Axial, 150N Momentary

Advanced Motion Network
Using the Reliance RacktuatorTM coupled to the Reliance Cool Muscle motors, multiple units can work in sequence either to produce circles, ellipses or complex arc motions in a daisy chain network such as 'pick and place' machines. The RacktuatorTM can be operated safely entirely on its own, or communicate via RS232, RS484, Ethernet, ModBus, CanOpen or Profibus, driving from its own memory banks or dynamically from a PC or HMI.
For simpler applications the RacktuatorTM is easily integrated with a standard stepper motor drive being driven either step and direct or with CW/CCW pulses.Suitable Applications
